Proposal Reviewers Drive Funding

12/02/2010

There are many reasons for supporters of sustainable agriculture to invest in reviewing proposals. Here's just a few:

  • Southern SARE's proposal reviewers have more responsibility for directing SARE funds than any other individuals or groups, even the Administrative Council. While the AC sets program policy and funding priorities, the technical reviewers evaluate and rank individual proposals based scientific soundness.
  • Former SARE grantees have a professional responsibility to give back to the program. No one understands the importance of SARE funding better than our own project investigators.
  • Disciplines that are under-represented on the technical review panels will be under-represented in the next round of awards because there were no reviewers to accurately evaluate them and write strong comments about the proposals merits.
