New Member Joins Southern SARE's Administrative Council
Southern SARE welcomes a new Administrative Council member for 2012.
Annie Donoghue, a research leader for the Poultry Production and Product Safety Research Unit, USDA-ARS, at the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas, has joined the Southern SARE Administrative Council. She replaces Randy Raper, who has retired, as the USDA-ARS appointed representative. Donoghue will serve on the AC for three years and participate in the Project Review Committee.
Donoghue is acting Research Leader for the Dale Bumpers Small Farm Research Unit in Booneville, AR. She received her degrees in Zoology (BS) from San Diego State University, Animal Science (MS) from Texas A&M University and Physiology (PhD) from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Both units focus on sustainable animal production systems with key research in organic livestock and poultry production and developing environmentally friendly methods to utilize manure. Her research has focused on developing alternatives to antibiotic use in poultry and developing strategies to reduce or eliminate pathogen contamination. Donoghue has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, patents, invited proceedings and book chapters.
