SARE AC Collaborating

Ron Young (center) shares his grass-fed beef concept with Mississippi farmer Alonzo Miller (left). Also pictured is Frank Taylor of the Winston County Self Help Cooperative.

Southern SARE Administrative Council members Ron Young and Frank Taylor recently collaborated at an event in Mississippi to bring sustainable agriculture information to area farmers.

Ron Young, a beef cattle producer from Tennessee, shared his concept of grass-fed beef at a Winston County Self Help Cooperative event in Louisville, MS. Frank Taylor serves as the organization's team leader. Among the day's activities included a presentation to the cooperative membership and working one-on-one with co-op member Alonzo Miller.

Said Miller, "WCSHC members are interested capturing more profit from their cattle operations; therefore, we have been exploiting other means of adding value. Ron Young provided a wealth of information to help develop my long-term goals as a cattle producer. As we walked over the farm, Ron made invaluable suggestions and shared experiences of implementing various practices to create his grass-fed operation. I will augment information learned into my cattle operation immediately with gusto because I am working to help save rural America by using sustainable practices and creating more income from our natural resources".
